What is the definition of knowledge management?
Improved knowledge management critical issues relating to organizational adaptation, survival, and given the growing competition and discontinuous changes in the business. Essentially, it incorporates organizational processes that seek synergistic combination of data and the capacity of information technologies to process this information and creative and innovative capacity of human beings.
This is the strategic vision for knowledge management that considers the synergy between technological and behavioral issues as a necessity for survival in very difficult business environment. The need for synergy between human and technological capabilities is what distinguishes the ‘old world of business “and” the new world of business. “
With this vision in the old world of business has to do with predictable business environment, characterized by a tendency towards maximizing efficiency. This is the world of competition based on information as a strategic asset and the emphasis of controlling employee behavior toward specific goals. The control and information systems are used to align the organization actors with pre-defined best practices. It assumes that those best practices that preserve the long-term effectiveness.
Moreover, the “new business” is characterized by high levels of uncertainty and the inability to predict the future. The use of information and control systems and compliance with predetermined objectives and best practices do not necessarily lead to long-term organizational competence.
This is the world of “re all”, which challenges the basic assumptions of what is meant by “the accepted way of doing things.” This world needs the ability to understand the problems caused by changing business rules. The focus is not only in finding the right answers but finding the right questions. This world is contrasted with “old world” for its emphasis on “doing the right thing” instead of “doing the right things.”
